PROJECT OVERVIEW
19 Hawthorne entrusted Ferguson Construction’s internal architectural design team to bring the vision for their new event center to life. The original intent was to repurpose an old high school, which was scheduled for demolition, into a new event center. Through a design investigation, however, it was determined that this aspiration was too costly to execute, and the best option was to design a new Pre-Engineered Metal Building (PEMB) structure.

CHALLENGES
The Ferguson design team immersed themselves into various simulated guest experiences to make certain the floor plan and finishes offered functionality with cutting-edge design that would serve the growing community for generations. It was imperative to design a timeless and aesthetically pleasing building that would set the stage for a variety of events with varying decorative tastes. The great hall was designed to comfortably provide up to 500 guests with breathtaking views of the new amphitheater, serene lake and peaceful prairie home of two nesting bald eagles. Precise attention to acoustics was given to ensure that guests would experience optimum sound for any type of event. Ferguson hired acoustical engineers to model the space and provide data to ensure the building design and speaker systems could master the listening experience for varying needs, from intimate engagements to a symphony concert.
The demand for PEMB fabrication exploded during the design process and delivery times were drastically delayed. Early estimations forecasted a 30-40 week lead time for delivery of the new building on site, but it was imperative for the 19 Hawthorne construction completion date to be set before the summer and fall event season.
SOLUTIONS
With a team focused on delivering an exceptional product despite the challenges, Ferguson maintained open communication with the owners, subcontractors, and material suppliers to create a beautiful event space that will have a lasting, positive impact on the community.
The construction process was completed in only 10 months, allowing the first event to take place in July of 2021.
“We had an aggressive timeline and Ferguson Construction was quick to respond to changes. They were creative with these challenges and demands as our ideas evolved during the construction. They guided us with their talent and wisdom, shaping what we believe is the premier event facility in Northwest Ohio, and a beautiful asset to the Lima community for decades to come.”
