In the construction industry, we certainly expect aspects of every project to present us with some challenges; it is what makes construction exciting and that much more fulfilling upon completion. The Sidney Hometown Investments’ Addition and Renovation Project did just that. With only 30’ between two existing multistory buildings (only one of which belonged to our client) our team was presented with the challenge of removing an existing three lane bank drive through and constructing a new addition in its place. The drive through was securely attached to both buildings and required some brute force to remove but, more importantly, we had to trust in the full gamut of our skilled labor forces. Preservation of each adjacent building was essential and, while our client’s building built in the 1970’s was a concern, the adjacent building, presumably built in the late 1800’s, was even more concerning. Construction methods and materials have obviously evolved, which makes any mistake that much more difficult to repair. However, our skilled labor forces, supported by local subcontractors, pulled it off by hitting the “rewind button” on the original construction process, deconstructing it piece by piece.
