sidney downtown arches

PROJECT OVERVIEW

At Ferguson Construction, we are passionate about creating spaces that bring people together, make work better, and celebrate the heart of our communities. A 2022 project in downtown Sidney, Ohio, was the perfect example of what can happen when a community comes together to honor its history while building for the future. Led by a dedicated committee and supported by Sidney Alive, this revitalization effort focused on boosting the downtown’s culture by encouraging local business growth, preserving historic charm, and creating spaces for events that united people. A standout feature of the project was the installation of beautiful, custom-designed arches over the state routes framing the downtown square—symbols of the community’s unity and entrepreneurial spirit.

The project was a true team effort, with Ferguson Construction working alongside Freytag and Associates, the City of Sidney, Shelby County Commissioners, Sollmann Electric, ODOT, and Buckley Iron. Each 6,000-pound steel arch was carefully crafted and designed with built-in lighting to enhance the square’s charm both day and night. From coordinating road closures and installation logistics to precisely field-measuring for a smooth setup, every detail was handled with care. The finishing touch? “Historic Downtown” signs proudly placed above each arch, now painted with reflective silver for an extra shine at night. Additionally, Sidney Alive received a “Best Downtown Placemaking” award from Heritage Ohio for these new arches and other enhancements. This project truly brought the Sidney community together and gave its downtown square a welcoming and vibrant new look.
