Using the Hands-On Approach

Ferguson Construction recently participated in the 2-day Workforce Career Exploration workshop put on by the Workforce Partnership of Shelby County.  Middle school and high school students from various local school districts traveled to the Shelby County Fairgrounds in Sidney, Ohio where area businesses came to together to showcase the skilled jobs they each have to offer.

Throughout the day the students attended 6 sessions – each put on by a different business.  At the different sessions, employees with actual experience and real world knowledge of the careers available were on hand to teach kids the associated skills, to explain the different educational journeys, and to answer any questions.

Upon attending the Workforce Career Exploration, students said their eyes had been opened to the career opportunities available to them right in their own communities.  A whole lot more than they had originally thought; they stated there had to be something for everyone in the multitude of career fields presented at the workshop.
