Relay for Life 2018
Ferguson Took a Step for a Cure
The evening of August 3rd found Ferguson’s Relay for Life team taking part in the annual Shelby County Relay for Life event held at the Shelby County Fairgrounds. This year’s theme for the event was superheroes “With Our Powers Combined We Will Conquer Cancer One Lap at a Time”. The 18 hour event started Friday night with opening ceremonies to welcome those who were in attendance. Following the opening ceremony, the many cancer survivors able to attend, took a victory lap around the track lined with luminarias. (The luminaria honor those who are continuing to battle the disease or in memory of those who have lost their fight against cancer.) The event offered various activities to participate in all night long including lighting of the luminarias, a baked good auction, glow yoga, lip sync contest, frozen t-shirt contest, Family Feud – Heroes, Saturday morning auction, and pancake breakfast just to name a few.
Each year Ferguson Construction’s Relay team uses the Relay’s event theme and decorates their tent. This year the Relay team chose to honor the US Army 82nd Airborne Division as their superheroes. The tent was decorated with army themed camo complete with paratroopers guarding the tent. In addition to this, Ferguson supplied various games for kids to play. The games were a paratrooper drop, an airplane throw, and various yard games. Ferguson’s staff and their families took one hour turns walking the track continuously all 18 hours to show their support for the event. This year Ferguson raised around $11,000 for the American Cancer Society. Thank you to all those that supported the event.
